MIT CleanStart is a live, web-based simulation where the players take the role of a founder of a startup company in the cleantech sector. The challenge is to build a business with a small startup capital, to win customers, hire people, improve the product and grow financially. Players find themselves as the founders and CEO of a small garage company which developed with the help of friends and colleges technologies for improving the energy efficiency of commercial industrial buildings. By raising fundings through family and friends players will need to introduce their products to the marketplace. The simulation with all the challenges gives a great opportunity to experience the learning curve which entrepreneurs are facing in real life.

Gameplay

The news announces your new startup which currently accrued and the economic status. A player finds himself in their small garage with five other employees. The dashboard gives out the information about the company employees, compensation to the employees, finances, and sales. The navigation bar gives the details about all other tasks which need to be managed in a company. Each quarter the prices must be set. Player decides how many engineers and salespeople he/she needs to hire and set compensation, including salary, stock, options and profit sharing.
